I sat there for a long time, savouring this rare moment of clarity and … its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility. – William Wordsworth.
Once, in Ireland, I conversed with sheep.
The flock, grazing on a meadow, must have been 200 strong. As I stood by the fence, I made eye contact with an elder. Feeling strangely rude, I said, “bahhh.” He returned my greeting and-my husband and daughters watching, amused–I replied in kind. This time, a few others joined in. Soon, we were a chorus of hundreds of voices, high and low, young and old.
Wordsworth’s ‘moment of clarity’ had always eluded me. Now, for a few brief moments, I felt it–in communion with nature, in communion, it felt, with God.

Sheep can be quite entertaining sometimes. Around here they often follow walkers along the hedgerows.

I talk to the cows, dogs, cats, bunnies, sheep, geese shoot I talk to anything that has ears and will listen to me. I swear they all know what I am talking about each and every time. :-)

Reminds me of when we were touring in the Pyrenees and I conversed with the cows. They ere cute as had bells on. And they mooed back as my Hubby looked on bewildered by the whole episode. Thank you for sharing and reminding of that memory. A lovely post. x

Loved this!!! I always feel as though animals are trying to communicate when they look at me – particularly directly in the eye. It is quite fascinating!

There were some sheep in a pasture next to a playground and the kids and I watched them for a while (there were some itty-bitty new lambs), but I didn't try to talk to them. I'll have to try that next time.
