#BlogFlash2012: Day Eighteen – Wild At Heart
In the 1950s and 60s, Venice, CA, known then as the ‘Slum of the Sea,’ was a popular hangout of the Beat poets and a thriving center for the arts. In 1965, Jim Morrison founded his famous rock band, The Doors. In Venice, subsisting on canned beans and LCD, he wrote many of the songs his band would later perform.
Today, the Venice Beach promenade is a gathering spot for the wild at heart. Artists, street vendors, and fortunetellers line the west-beach-side of the 1.5-mile boardwalk. Skateboarders zip by, and, here, you’ll see everything from weightlifting competitions to freak shows to drop-in ‘clinics,’ dispensing medical marijuana. And, in the street musicians singing or playing guitar, the spirit of Jim Morrison lives on.

You’re welcome, Melina! I had some great pics but – unbelievably – barely any cell reception in the hotel to send them to my email. Hopefully I can share them later in the week!
Sounds quite an amazing place! I'd love to visit just to see it all for myself. Thanks for sharing.
Here's the link to my post for today http://wp.me/p1UhOl-90
Should I write you into my novel? You could help "save the day" there, even if I never get published!

I love to people watch in places like this. It was while people watching that some of the characters for my WIP were born, along with their alter egos.

Great post Terri. One of my favourites so far.
I love The Doors and of course Jim “The Lizard King” Morrison. One of the great rock legends :)
Never tried LCD before. Did they even have those TVs in '65?
Nothing but bull elephant testosterone and adrenalin in this one:

Ah, Jim Morrison and The Doors!
"The time to hesitate is through / No time to wallow in the mire" One of the best lines ever written. :)
