I’m delighted to be hosting #BlogFlash2012 – 30 Days, 30 Prompts 30 Posts.

I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has participated in #BlogFlash2012, either by taking part in the challenge or by reading the posts. I’ve loved every minute!

#BlogFlash2012: Day Thirty – Winning

‘Winning isn’t everything; it’s the only thing.’

No, Mr. Lombardi, winning is not everything nor is it the only thing. The New Orleans Saints ‘bounty hunting’ scandal-players received $1000 for intentionally hurting opposing players, $1500 if the player was taken off the field in a cart-shows the lengths some of us will go to when winning is the only thing that matters.

To win, we lie: fabricated test results put consumers at risk; cheat: athletes are routinely banned from their sport for doping; steal: rampant plagiarism mars both media outlets and academia; slander: political campaigns (need we say more?). In these and myriad other ways we hurt and, in the worst cases, destroy other people.

What does this say of a culture that tolerates-and even rewards-winning-at-all- costs behavior? What does it say about us? What does it say to our children?

Winning isn't everything – I've had to learn that on the flash fiction circuit. Every judge is looking for something different but my lesson has been that if I am happy/excited by/pleased with what I produced, that is what matters!!

No winning isn’t everything – it’s the taking part and fair play that’s important. Your final post is very insightful and fitting.

I want to thank you for hosting #BlogFlash2012. It has challenged me in many ways, opened my eyes to some incredibly talented writers, and I’ve made some new friends to boot.
To everyone else that’s taken part, I thank you for some wonderful writing and entertainment along the way.

I’m really going to miss the challenge of interpreting the posts in a creative way, but most of all I’m going to miss everyone who took part! Big hugs to you all, but especially to you, Terri, for this fantastic rollercoaster ride of creativity!
