#BlogFlash2012: Day Twenty Nine – Masquerade
I’ve always dreaded Halloween. Although I love seeing the kids at the door, I’m terrible at creating costumes. When our daughters were young, my sister always helped them dress. The few times I’ve taken the leap and attended a Halloween party, I stressed for days over the costume. I’m not sure if it’s because I can’t imagine being anyone else-the Queen of England, as we used to say? I think not. Don’t get me wrong: I admire the Queen. I’m just not she. In my only memorable masquerade, I was a cat.
Yes, a cat.
Word count: 96
Lol, a cat, love it!
Here's my day 29: http://christinakrieger.com/2012/08/29/blogflash-…
And I'm sure you made a very fine cat! I was never that great at making holloween costumes either – thank goodness my mum was a tailoress!
I've gone a bit over the word limit today, but it wasn't my fault, the story had to be told in this way and I couldn't cut it down, so here's my link: http://wp.me/p1UhOl-bs
I know I'm way behind visiting some of your posts and answering those kind enough to leave comments on mine and I do apologise. Events at my end sort of spiralled out of control, but I promise I'll catch up as soon as I possibly can!
Thank you so much for the link, Carlie, and I think you told your 'Masquerade' story perfectly!
Costumes always infuriate me to a degree, they never end up how I imagined in my mind's eye!
Can't believe this is all coming to an end…here's Day Twenty-Nine:
http://thelastkrystallos.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/b…
I know, Lisa! I'm answering this having just posted my final post and I can't believe how sad I feel. Elated at such a great month, but sad that it's over!
Bwahaha Terri, made me laugh because I too was once a cat. Only thing was that I was racing around to get ready to go and my high heels somehow got caught on the rug and I tumbled down a flight of stairs! I wasn't hurt, just embarrassed as all get out. :0)
The word Masquerade seems dark to me. Here's my dark haiku:
Don't worry, Donna – I didn't inherit a cat's grace with my costume either! Thank goodness you were okay, though!
Great scott! Were we ALL cats?! The only time I ever dressed up I went for the feline look too!! I'm going to be smiling about this all day!! Thank you for sharing!!
My link for the day is here: http://www.sweetbananaink.com/2012/08/29/blog-fla…
Is it going to be #BlogCat2013, instead of #BlogFlash2013? I'm smiling at the cat trio idea now too, Ruth!
Halloween is by far my least favorite holiday because of some scares I got as a kid. I'm trying not to pass along my anxiety about it to the girls though.
I was always terrible at coming up with costumes too. I'm not great with parties anyway so add costumes into the mix and I about have a panic attack.
I feel like I need to add the "I am not a writer" disclaimer to lots of my posts but I'm putting my stuff out there anyway :-)
Your posts have been wonderful, Angela! I thought I'd got to know your blog so well from previous visits and Read, Write, Give, but this month has given me extra insight and I've loved it!
We never celebrated Halloween, growing up in South Africa it wasn't on our calendar. I did once dress up as a music box, however. It was my dad's idea :-)
One day left of BlogFlash2012 – I've had a blast! Thank you all x.

So have I, Lesley! I've had such an amazing month, and encountered so many incredible people!
We're all fabulous felines ;)
We're so close to the end now, Terri . . . withdrawl symptoms will ensue, I'm sure!
I hope you enjoy today's entry :)

We'll have to start a countdown to #BlogFlash2012, Afsaneh! I know I'm going to miss this!
I love halloween and my oldest son is heading into his third. He hasn't seen the movie so he doesn't understand the awesomeness, but dressed in white with a lightsaber, he's a dead ringer for Luke Skywalker from the original movie. Then I'd get to be Darth Vader or Chewbacca or something.
I can't believe there's only one left.
(But look: he can write about a writer other than himself.)

A mini Luke Skywalker? That's too cute! I loved your piece for 'Masquerade' – and what a great link you shared!
LOL!! I always had a hard time with customs too, especially since I can't sew. Sorry mine is over word count but I had to set up the story a little. http://candylittle.wordpress.com/2012/08/29/promp…
Your piece for this prompt has made me laugh so much, Candy! What a way to turn the tables!
I have always loved halloween, as a kid I would plan for months what to wear, but then again I love to be scared so…
What a wonderful journey this has been, I really feel I have been able to stretch my legs as a writer and explore a variety of topics, which if not for this challenge would ever have mae their way onto my blog. Thanks Terri! Here's my Day 29

I'm so thrilled, Melina! I was excited about #BlogFlash2012 and it's surpassed my expectations over and over again. What a great month!
I've never had a problem with Halloween, and I made a fabulous cat several years. My other stand-by is a vampire. I have a couple of different costumes depending on the occasion.
That being said, plus the fact that my WIP characters are shapeshifters and always masquerading as something/someone, I had a really hard time with today's prompt. Maybe it's my mind's way of delaying the end of a fun month!

Heidi, I've been trying to get in to your posts, but I get a message saying something about you have to be invited? Can you invite me please? Thank you.
Carlie
I'm also having issues, Heidi. I'm not sure if it's because my Google account is under a different email than my day to day one. I'd love to catch your last few posts!
Amazing that we're at the second-last day…
Here's my contribution for today:

It really is! The month has flown by, yet so much has happened. Thank you for the link!

Delightful piece! I love halloween, too bad this year will be very quiet. The past years we've had our 5 grands here and lots of excitement. Not this year.
I'm sorry about that, Jean! I hope you'll enjoy another lively Halloween with them next year instead. Thank you so much for the link!
To the rest of the world I declared this tough to write piece flash fiction. I'll confess to you here it is not fictional, it is a snippet of what I experienced just Monday night.

Julie, I'm so stunned and sorry. That you would share this with us after what must be an agonizing week leaves me so touched. You're in my thoughts!
