Interview

Could you please tell us about Ereader News Today? What is your mission?

ENT started as a site mainly for news and info on ereaders but now we focus more on getting the best free Kindle books into as many book lovers’ hands as possible.  Our mission is to make readers happy by getting them the free Kindle books while also making authors happy by getting their books into as many hands as possible.

Why did you decide to create and host a site showcasing indie authors/books?

Actually, I didn’t decide to do this until some authors started to contact me and ask if I could help promote their books.  When we started to have some success with the promotions, I decided to make that a major focus of the site along with the free books.

One writer recently called indie publishing “literary karaoke.” How would you respond to this?

I think there is a lot of original indie books out there, many of them better than those that have been traditionally published.  While that writer’s statement may be correct for some books, it surely does not reflect indie publishing as a whole.

What do you see as the future of indie publishing?

I believe that the Kindle, and now all of the other ereading devices that are on the market, is the best thing that could have happened to indie writers.  If you have a good book and know how to market it well, you can have a lot of success.  I have seen hundreds of people say that they are now reading authors that they would have never thought of reading before (and would have never even heard of) had it not been for the Kindle and sites like ENT that get the books in front of the people.  I see a very bright future for indie publishing especially if they use all of the technology that is now available such as ereaders and social media.  Of course, most of the success will depend on good quality books.

Do you have any additional comments?

Just write good books and learn how to market your books and you can have success. With the internet, ereaders, and now mobile phones, indie writers have the power to get their books in front of thousands of people now.
